HUNTER VALLEY WINE TOURS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can we book a wine tour for a hen's party?
Absolutely!
- Hen's parties are one of the most popular group types in the Hunter Valley. It's important to mention this upfront during the booking process, as some wineries refuse these groups or apply a surcharge for tastings, which operators factor into the quote.
- We'll connect you with operators who specialise in memorable hen's day experiences.
Is your service really free to compare wine tours in the Hunter Valley?
Yes! We don't make any commission.
- We partner with local tour operators who gain exposure through our platform. You compare, choose, and book with no hidden fees on our end.
- What we gain? We hope you would consider adding an in-house wine tasting experience. Stay n' Sip brings the wine tasting experience directly to your accommodation from $50pp. Our experiences are available even after hours and anywhere in New South Wales.
How many guests can you transport?
No limit! There are no too small or too big groups.
- We are privileged to work with local wine tours running large float of coaches, buses, luxury vehicles, party buses and mini vans.
- They offer Hunter Valley Wine Tours for couples, family and friends gatherings, hen's party, buck's party and any other reasons.
How much does cost a private wine tour in the Hunter Valley?
It obviously depends on your tour.
- Is it private or are you joining other people?
- What is the size of your group?
- How many wineries would you like to visit?
- Mid week or long weekend?
- Lunch included or not?
- Premium experiences or classic tastings?
Let them reach out to you and you can compare their different offerings.
It usually starts from $99pp for a half day tour.
What should I wear and bring on a Hunter Valley wine tour?
Think smart casual, this is your chance to dress up without overdoing it. The Hunter Valley is as much about the vibe as the wine, and the cellar doors, vineyard lunches, and photo opportunities absolutely reward a well-put-together outfit.
For women: a dress or a linen outfit works beautifully, elegant but relaxed. Block-heel sandals or ankle boots are your best friend here; you'll want something stylish but stable on vineyard gravel and grass. A light blazer or denim jacket doubles as both a style statement and practical layering for cooler mornings and wineries.
For men: chinos or tailored shorts with a linen shirt hits the perfect note. Clean white sneakers or loafers keep it polished without trying too hard.
A few golden rules for hen's parties and milestone groups:
- Coordinate, don't match. A colour palette (think terracotta, sage, or champagne tones) photographs far better than identical outfits
- Avoid stilettos, vineyard paths and gravel carparks are not kind to them
- Bring a tote or small crossbody bag, you'll want your hands free for wine glasses, not bags
- A hat (a wide-brim straw or a baseball cap for the more casual group) completes the look and saves you from the NSW sun
What to pack:
- Sunscreen
- A portable charger — your camera roll will thank you
- A reusable wine tote if you're planning to buy bottles
- Cash or card for cellar door purchases and tasting fees not covered by your tour
The Hunter Valley is genuinely Instagrammable, rolling vineyards, rustic barrel rooms, and gorgeous cellar door architecture. Dress like you planned the photo, not like you forgot it was happening.
Can I choose my wineries?
Yes!
- If you book a private tour, you can choose your own itinerary and wineries!
- However, be aware that some tours may charge you extra for tasting fees.
What if some of my guests don't drink alcohol?
- Absolutely no problem — the Hunter Valley has something for everyone, and non-drinkers are just as welcome at the cellar door as anyone else.
- Most wineries offer non-alcoholic alternatives including sparkling water, grape juice, kombucha and increasingly, alcohol-free wine options.
- Many cellar doors are also paired with gorgeous settings, cheese rooms, chocolate tastings, and gourmet providores that make the experience just as enjoyable without a drop of alcohol.

- Tours departing from Sydney are longer, usually leaving around 7:30am and returning by 6:30pm.
Are tasting fees included in the tour price?
It depends on the operator.
- Almost all cellar doors in the Hunter Valley charge a tasting fee for group presentations, typically around $10 per person, with some charging up to $20 and a small number of premium cellar doors charging $30 per person.
- Always confirm with your operator whether these are covered.
Do you organise corporate wine tours?
Yes!
- Corporate wine tours typically include gourmet lunches, vineyard tours, and team-building activities.
- Great for EOFY events, Christmas parties, or client entertainment.
What is the cancellation policy?
Policies vary by operator but generally follow this structure: full refund with 2 weeks' notice, 50% cancellation fee between 7–14 days before departure, and full loss of payment for cancellations under 7 days. Tasting fees are typically non-refundable. Always ask and check the T&Cs before you confirm.
What wines will we taste in the Hunter Valley?
- Hunter Valley Semillon is widely considered the iconic wine of the region, but the Hunter also produces Chardonnay, Verdelho, Shiraz and some Cabernet Sauvignon.
- Your guide will walk you through each variety, so no prior wine knowledge is needed.
- However, let us know if you have some favourite wines - eg: Moscato, Riesling, Pinot Noir..
Do I have to buy wine at the cellar doors?
- Buying wine is completely optional. You're welcome to taste without making any purchase, though if you fall in love with a bottle, it makes for a great souvenir or gift!
